Hence, we can say that Mobile phone has become an asset and plays a crucial role in our lives to catch up with this trend.

Thus, like any other asset, there is a necessity to take protective measures for its safety.

Being India’s first digital insurer, ACKO General Insurance Private Limited with its tremendous growth, provides a wide spectrum of insurance policies for various assets such as two wheelers, four wheelers to name a few.

Likewise, now it is offering  an ACKO Mobile Insurance with various protection plans for mobile phones for a smooth and hassle free repair service for the mobile phones.

For a basic understanding how this works, we will jot down the necessary guidelines below.

Mobile Protection Plans: Overview

Since the repair costs of mobile phones are pretty expensive nowadays, it is essential to have these insured.

ACKO Mobile Insurance offers a secure protection for your mobile phones with a comprehensive coverage with effortless easy repair services in the event of any unfortunate damage or breakdown.

The plan has many add-on benefits which we will be looking into.

Taking an Insurance is not compulsory, however, it will be a long term investment to save you from unforeseen repair costs which may happen more frequently than you expect. 

Moving onto the ACKO Mobile Insurance review of Protection plans, we offer two types of Protection Plans.

One, All Round Protection Plan which provides repair services and reimbursements upto the maximum sum insured for the device, including screen, camera, speakers etc.

Two, Screen Protection Plan  which provides repair services and reimbursements upto the maximum sum insured for Screen Damage alone.

Both policies have 1 year of validity from the date of purchase and customers can place 1 repair request during the policy period. 

Some of the Add-on benefits of the Total Damage Protection Plan include:

  1. It covers both Accidental and Liquid Damages
  2. It provides cashless repairs at selected brand authorized service centers
  3. It offers free doorstep pick and drop-off of repaired mobile phones which will be available in selected cities
  4. Repair status will be accessible through Real-time online tracking process
  5. It covers all the costs 

Some of the Add-on benefits of the Mobile Screen Protection Plan include: 

  1. It provides cashless repairs at selected brand authorized service centers
  2. It requires no paperwork
  3. It offers one-time free screen replacement/repair during the policy period
  4. It offers free doorstep pick and drop-off of repaired mobile phones.
  5. Repair status will be accessible through Real-time online tracking process
  6. All costs are covered

These Protection Plans do not cover the theft or loss of mobile phones or any liquid damages.

Furthermore repair from the unauthorized services will not be accepted and renewed/refurbished phones will not be covered under these plans.

With regard to the purchase of these Protection Plans, currently ACKO Mobile Insurance offer plans for sale only on Amazon for online purchases and Girias, Global Access and Fone4 for Offline purchases.

For online purchase, once you select a mobile you wish to buy in the Amazon App, you have to scroll down to ‘Add a Protection Plan’.

After clicking ‘Add’, please ensure that the device and the plan are in the same cart for purchase.

Then, by clicking ‘Buy Now’, the items will now be available in the Checkout Page for purchase.

In the event of retail purchase, the plan can be bought together with the product from the above mentioned stores.

Activation, Updation & Cancellation of Plan

After the purchase, the plan has to be activated to avail the services offered by the ACKO Mobile Insurance.

The plan usually gets automatically activated if the device and the protection plan are bought together in the same purchase.

If not, the protection plan has to be manually activated.

For manual activation, all you have to do is follow the steps provided in the following link https://www.acko.com/electronics/newplan/planactivation or make a call back request and share the required details and invoices on the same day on which the plan was purchased.

Further updates will be provided to your SMS and Email. In both cases, the plan usually gets activated within 7 days from the date of purchase. 

However we currently don’t offer a plan renewal option for our protection plans.

In case you want to update the information for a plan, you just have to go to ‘My Policies’ and login with your registered mobile number.

Then select the plan for which you have to edit the details and click on the Edit Policy button and update the details, if any. 

To download the Plan documents, in the same ‘My Policies’ tab, select the policy and click on the Policy Document button to download the same. 

For cancellation of the Plan or refund for canceled plans, you can raise a return request on Amazon within 7 days to get your refund amount.

Procedure for Repair Request

We offer multiple modes of settlement for the repair requests which will be discussed in the upcoming section and ACKO has partnered with brand authorized service centers which are available across India.

The specified modes of settlement  are as follows:

  1. Cashless Repairs 
  2. Pick & Drop
  3. Advance Cash Settlement 
  4. Reimbursement

To raise a repair request for your mobile phone, go to ‘My policies’ in the ACKO website and login with the registered mobile number.

Furtheron, select the mobile plan which covers the mobile to be repaired and click ‘Repair Request’ on the policy screen and answer a few questions put forth which don’t require any documents.

Then select the preferred mode of settlement (further details are available on the website) and thereby the request will be registered.

You will also be notified with the repair status updates by SMS or email.

Once a mode of settlement is chosen, the same cannot be changed unless you cancel the ongoing request and raise a new request.

In order to withdraw or cancel the ACKO Insurance Mobile phone repair request, after logging in with your registered mobile number in ‘My Policies’ tab in the website, select the mobile plan for which the repair request is active, click on the ‘Track Ongoing Repair’ card on the plan details and select the request which you wish to cancel.

Finally, choose ‘Cancel Repair’ on the Track Repair screen to cancel the request.

Modes of Settlement

  1. Cashless repairs are offered for selected mobile models in selected geographies. For Cashless Repairs, after logging in with your registered mobile number in the ‘My Policies’ tab in the website, select Cashless Repair mode of settlement from the options and thereby you will receive a link about the service center details via SMS/Email. Once your request is approved by ACKO, take your mobile to the specified center and pick it up when it is repaired without any payment. No payment is required if you have opted for an All- Round protection plan. However service would be charged apart from screen replacement if you have opted for Screen Protection Plan. The repair usually takes 5-7 days. The repair request can be tracked in your account wherein once you login with your registered Mobile number in ‘My Policies’, you have to select the mobile plan for which the repair request is active and click the Track Ongoing Repair card. Subsequently, click on the request to be tracked wherein a tracker will be displayed to show the progress of the request. You will also be notified through SMS/email.
  1. Advance Cash Settlement: Currently, this feature is available only if the screen is damaged and the said mobile is switching on. To avail this mode, after logging in with your registered mobile number in the ‘My Policies’ tab in the website, select Advance Cash as settlement option and the pre-approved amount for screen replacement for your mobile will be displayed. Subsequently, provide the bank details to receive advance amount for the repair and provide a video of the mobile to be repaired as per the instruction using the link shared via SMS. Once the request is approved, you will receive the amount in your account. Since we take the cost of screen replacement from the brand and update it from time to time, we pay fair market value of the screen repair.
  1. Pickup and Drop: To avail this mode, after logging in with your registered mobile number in the ‘My Policies’ tab in the website, select the Pickup and Drop as the settlement option and thereafter provide the pickup address and preferred date for the pickup of mobile. Subsequently, once the request is processed, our logistics partner assigned will pickup the mobile in 3-5 days, get it repaired in the authorized service center and drop the repaired phone on the same address. While handing over the phone, ensure to backup the data, remove the sim, memory card and other accessories and change the settings to keep the phone unlocked. Also ensure to place the mobile in an unsealed box before handover. The whole process usually only takes 12-15 days and the repair request can be tracked like that in Advance Cash Settlement mode. 
  1. Reimbursement: ACKO Mobile insurance claim for reimbursement can be opted for the repair charges to be incurred by you at any brand authorized service center and this feature will be available only if other modes are not available. To avail this mode, Select Reimbursement after logging in with your registered mobile number in the ‘My Policies’ tab in the website and provide device images which need to be repaired as per the instructions. Further provide the bank details to receive the reimbursement amount. Once your request is approved by ACKO, take your mobile to a brand authorized service center nearby. Subsequently, provide the repaired device images and invoice received after getting it repaired from the service center in the website. Once it’s approved, you will receive the amount in bank account details provided. Ideally , as soon as the repair request is approved, we recommend you get the device repaired and we will also provide timely reminders to provide the repaired images and invoices. However, if no documents are submitted within 21 days, the request will be closed and you can raise another request later. If the approved amount is lesser than the repair cost, once you provide the estimation copy, we will confirm and provide the updated approved amount if applicable as per terms. However, estimation copy charges will not be covered in the updated amount.

Tracking Process

As iterated above, to track the status of the repair request, all you have to do is to go to the ‘My Policies’ tab in acko.com website and login with your registered mobile number and select the mobile plan for which repair request is active.

Then click on the Track Ongoing Repair Card  on the plan details screen and choose the request you wish to track.

Subsequently, a tracker will be displayed to show the current progress in the request placed. You will also be notified with the status through SMS or Email details provided.

For any updates in Reimbursement, we will notify the same via SMS or email once the documents are submitted and payout request is approved from our side.

Similarly, for any updates in Advance Cash Settlements, SMS and email about the payment processing will be sent to you once the required documents or video is received and payout request is approved.

Final Words

Now the question which may pop up in most of our brains is if there is an extended Warranty, why there is an additional need for a mobile Insurance as such.

The answer is in many of the brand warranties provided, they may leave out the Add on features of ACKO Mobile Insurance as mentioned above.

Some of the warranty may not cover accidental damages, Screen replacement feature, Cash payout option, Doorstep Pickup and Delivery mode of settlement and damages from unforeseen accidents may not be covered.

Hence choosing these protection plans will provide a comprehensive coverage, with huge cost savings along with hassle-free services and instance assistance for any support.

Therefore, these ACKO Mobile Insurance protection plans will give peace of mind from other technical complexities.
